Structure of a Report in Factview
A report in Factview consists of two components:
-
The Report Structure
-
The Dataset containing the financial data
These two components work independently but together form the report displayed in the Dashboard.
1. Report Structure
The Report Structure defines the layout of the report.
The structure consists of:
-
Sections
-
Subgroups
-
(Sub)totals
-
General ledger accounts
The structure is hierarchical and contains multiple levels. The lowest level consists of the individual general ledger accounts.
The Report Structure determines:
-
Which rows are displayed
-
How amounts are totaled
-
Which levels can be expanded or collapsed
When a level is collapsed, only the total is displayed. Expanding it reveals the underlying groups or general ledger accounts.
The Report Structure does not contain financial data. It only defines the layout of the report.
2. Dataset
The Dataset contains the financial data displayed in the report.
A Dataset can be linked to one or more Import Sets, such as:
-
Actuals
-
Budget
-
Planning
-
Forecast
The Dataset determines:
-
Which financial year is displayed
-
Which source data is used
-
Which financial data is available
Without a Dataset, no amounts are displayed in the report.
How the Report Structure and Dataset Work Together
The Report Structure determines where the values are displayed.
The Dataset determines which values are displayed.
Because these two components operate independently, you can:
-
Use one Report Structure with multiple Datasets
-
Display multiple Datasets side by side
-
Calculate variances or percentages
-
Split reports by dimensions (for example, Cost Center or Project)
This flexibility makes Factview suitable for a wide range of financial analyses.
Troubleshooting Unexpected Figures
If a report displays unexpected figures, check the following:
-
Which Report Structure is being used
-
Which Dataset is currently active
-
Whether multiple Datasets are combined
-
Whether a dimension filter is applied
The current report settings are displayed in the Labels section at the top of the report.
